From my view there are many amazing artists in our world today. For the most part it is very inspiring, motivating me to move forward and to arrive at an even better place of self-expression and creativity.
It's interesting though, because at each stage of progress, there is a new summit to be attained. Greatness is earned, takes time and countless hours of effort. They say that 'geniuses' have something in common: they've spent a minimum of 10,000 hours doing what they do.
The positive side is that challenges keep us fresh. I believe that artists on the whole are curious individuals who like to learn and to explore new ideas, ways and means. By keeping our minds open, to work at our craft consistently, to let go of ego and to continue to learn, we open the gateway to becoming great at what we do.
I know I'll never be a 'good enough painter' in my own mind, because 'good enough' is the kiss of death for growth. Challenges are fun, interesting and motivating. By focusing on the process and having purpose for each painting, we continue to grow. Pushing past fear and frustration plus understanding our inner motivators helps too.
It takes time and effort to become better and even great. It also takes a willingness to fail.
